Ski Spain

Initially Spain may not conjure up an image of impressive snow covered mountain peaks catering for one of the world's most exclusive winter sports - skiing.

However, as Europe’s second most mountainous country (after Switzerland) it is perhaps less of a surprise to know that it's host to a ski resort a mere two hours drive from the resort -Sierra Nevada which literally means "Snowy Mountain Range".

With Spain having an average altitude of around 800 metres, (2,500 ft), above sea-level, it is little wonder that it holds a white wilderness during the winter months. On a clear day it's possible to see accross the Mediterranean to the mountains of Morrocco.

An important factor that very few resorts are able to boast, is that you are practically guaranteed sunshine throughout your stay. Being so far south the climate is superb for brushing up on the deepest ski tan you are likely to get anywhere. Visitors are consistently stunned at how the snow lasts during the typically deep blue skied, sun blazoned days.

As one of Europe's highest resorts it has a typically long season, traditionally opening at the end of November running through to the end of April or even into the first week of May.

You could be swimming in the warm Mar Menor in the morning and carving up the mountain come the afternoon!

The season starts in December and finishes in May.
